🎤 Statement from IBA V. President
« What an unforgettable and extraordinary experience I had in Tanzania just a few days ago! From the moment I set foot in this beautiful country, I was struck by the warmth and kindness of its people, a place where humanity and generosity truly shine. My dear friend Emmanuel Mlundwa welcomed me into his family, and with them, and his loyal circle, I felt a deep sense of belonging. Their hospitality, coupled with immense respect, left me humbled and moved.
Under the Mafia Boxing Promotion/ KO YA MAMA organization, we approached our work with the utmost seriousness, honesty, and professionalism. As we poured our hearts into it, the results exceeded every expectation. This historic event crowned the first-ever IBA champion from Tanzania, and I am deeply proud to have played a role in making it happen. After more than three decades of witnessing boxing events around the world, I can say with all sincerity that I have rarely seen such remarkable quality in all 11 bouts. Each fight was a testament to the fierce dedication and talent of the fighters.
The flawless execution of the event was nothing short of extraordinary. With the exclusive support of President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, every detail—from the press conference to the weigh-ins and the matches themselves—was handled with perfection. I was in awe as screens were set up across the country, making sure the entire Tanzanian population could witness and feel part of this historic occasion. To see an entire nation come together in such unity, to celebrate and support these incredible athletes, was profoundly moving.
I must also extend my deepest gratitude to our incredible team of officials. They were the very embodiment of competence, professionalism, and dedication. Their support was invaluable, and they carried out their duties with an unmatched sense of excellence. I have always known that Tanzania held a vast reservoir of boxing talent, but never could I have imagined the sheer depth of skill, heart, and passion in this nation. Tanzania, without a doubt, stands as the top boxing nation in Africa.
These athletes do more than fight—they pour their souls into every bout, delivering not just sport, but unforgettable performances. Each fighter left their heart in the ring, giving everything they had in the spirit of competition and national pride.
I also had the privilege of meeting the leaders of the Tanzanian commission, and their kindness and commitment to furthering the sport of boxing in this great nation touched me deeply. They are truly dedicated to raising the bar and unlocking the full potential of this incredible country. I want to especially acknowledge Emmanuel Mlundwa, who has fought tirelessly for years to make this dream a reality for his country. His passion and dedication have paved the way for this monumental achievement.
Africa is a treasure trove of athletes, particularly boxers, and I have no doubt that Tanzania will soon take its rightful place on the world stage, recognized for its extraordinary talent and passion for the sport.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to everyone involved, and thank you, Tanzania, for a journey I will never forget «
